A variety of nib units are offered at a discounted price when you bundle with the purchase of your pen.  Click on the hyperlinked choices below to learn more about the choice of nibs.

  • Choose from Osprey Regular Size 6 nib units in  SteelGold  or 2ToneAll regular nibs used for everyday writing, come with a plastic feed and accept international standard converters or pre-filled ink cartridges, giving you the flexibility to use either bottled ink or pre-filled ink cartridge. The pen is fitted with an Osprey custom converter by default and is packaged in a premium pen box.
  • #6 Steel  Economical Special Grinds such as the Architect Broad, Architect BB, Zoom BB, Broad Left-Oblique or Broad Right-Oblique, Broad-Stub or Double Broad Stub.  Just like the #6 steel nibs, the special grind nibs also accept international standard converters or pre-filled ink cartridges, giving you the flexibility to use either bottled ink or pre-filled ink cartridge or use with Osprey custom converter.
  •  #5.5 Ultra-flex#6 Ultra-flexZebra G or Titanium Ultra-flex assemblies:  Ultra-flex nibs are for ardent calligraphy users! You can purchase these as complete assembly for a seamless plug & play, or buy just nib units to swap. The assembly consists of an ultra-flex nib unit of your choice, that threads into the Outer Section, and includes an Osprey converter. All ultraflex nib units come with custom ebonite feeds. It is best to use fountain-pen friendly inks  to avoid clogging the feed.
  • Size 5.5 Ultra-flex, Zebra G Flex and Titanium Ultra-flex are non-cartridge type, meaning they do not take any prefilled ink cartridges or international converters. They are made to work with custom Osprey converters. Size 6 Ultraflex, which is our next generation ebonite feed, takes both a cartridge and converter, which means you can use prefilled ink cartridges or use bottled ink.

If you choose #5.5UF or Zebra G assembly be sure to add a nib-block kit , if you don't already have one. You can download a maintenance guide that helps in easy disassembly and assembly of the flex nib & feed, when the pen feeds get clogged over time with use. The nib block does not accommodate size 6 nibs, you will instead need to use the grip provided in the kit for disassembly and assembly.

Product works as expected. I purchased additional nibs and accessories for the wrong pen. The staff saw I made a mistake and shipped both pieces. The one I ordered incorrectly and the the one I needed. Awesome pen awesome people.

Osprey Milano Ebonite 2nd Life

I bought the ebonite Milano some time back with the standard non flex ef or eef nib and wasn't too overwhelmed with the result. Today at the Dallas Pen Show I stopped by the Osprey table and was shown their updated nib/feed combos. I wanted to stick with ebonite and went with the EEF flex with ebonite feed. The two toned nib is quite attractive. This pen really has great potential now. The updating of the nib/feed really changed things. While the steel nib is not super sensitive to pressure the hairline you can achieve is just that... HAIR LINE thin. I also didn't have issue with ink flow. The ebonite feed is delivering just enough ink to the paper. No railroading experienced nor a wet mess pouring out of the nib. Serious copperplate will require a more sensitive nib for sure... perhaps their Zebra G equipped models. For "normal writing" with a bit of thick and thin their steel ultra flex nib is a good choice. Their EEF ultra flex is an easy nib to control. If you like to trail off your lettering with a super fine line that disappears into nothing the EEF is what you'll want. I would suggest it for fine detail pen and ink drawing too particularly for very fine cross hatching.

Yes, it's worth it

A very well designed pen.

It's clear what their philosophy was when they made this pen. Choice! One pen to rule them all.

Ink storage?
-Eye dropper, cartridge, or convertor. Plus you have the option whether to unscrew the barrel or the barrel's finial. Handy if topping off an eyedropper.

Nibs?
-They have many of their own, as well as the ability to fit any standard 6 nib into the nib unit. But, the nibs they sell are really amazing value. So smooth, and with a bit of bounce. Not like a nail at all. And with pressure I can get my medium to somewhere between a broad and a double broad width.

Ergonomics?
-I was worried that I would have to rest my fingers on the threads just above the section, but I actually naturally grasp it right at on the section. If the pen had been fitted with a shorter, size 5 nib, it would not be nearly as comfortable. When posted it becomes too back heavy, at least for my preference. Very well balanced otherwise.

Aesthetics?
-It is a plain pen in black+chrome, which is what I wanted. But that does not mean it is poorly made. It is shiny and well-polished. If you chose black+gold it would be quite elegant.

Value?
-Definitely. You cannot find an ebonite-bodied pen for this cheap unless you live in India. Plus, all of the nib-options (EEF to Broad, semi-flex nibs, Zebra-G) makes it easy to turn one pen into many.

Overall: Great pen, great design, and the company's dedication to getting handwriting back in schools is noteworthy.

YEARS OF IMPECABLE USE

I have had my Milanos, (2), for a few years now. While I own pens that cost 3x+ the price, they are still amongst my favorites. They always write smoothly and have excellent flow The only problem that I have ever had with one was when I went off on a trip with one and forgot to check the ink and my ink ran out. Is this pen worth the price? It is absolutely worth the price. it stacks up well with higher-priced pens and never fails to impress me with its presence.
