Exceptional fountain pen nib. Highly recommended.
I wanted to have one EDC fountain pen for writing (general notes and such), sketching (vs finished drawings), and practice pointed pen calligraphy. I don’t want to carry multiple fountains for this. Since it needs to cover so many bases, I didn’t expect it to be great at any one thing. I will say that this Titanium UltraFlex EEF nib does a pretty darn good job with each.
Writing: The nib is fine which is what I want vs a juicy line. This provides that. For those who have had a Preppy as a starter, it resembles the fine nib.
Drawing/Sketching: I like cross-hatching and line work kind of sketching. The fine line fits perfectly for that. I do intend to use the Zebra G Flexpert that I also have from Osprey when I want to do finished drawings. Using this for quick sketching.
Pointed Pen Calligraphy: I’m just starting with Spencerian and Copperplate. The flex is good (when I hold it correctly and use it right). I can tell when I’m doing it right as the nib responds well and it glides through making the letters. With a line that starts so fine, variation can be dramatic. As with sketching, I do intend to use the Zebra G Flexpert when I want to do finished calligraphy or serious practice, but this is great for casual practice.
I would have been more than happy to leave the Zebra G Flexpert on all the time, but it’s not very good for general writing and I’d have to replace the nibs all the time.
Lastly, I like dealing with Osprey Pens as a company. As mentioned earlier, I started with the Zebra G Flexpert on a Scholar and then an UF Broad Nib (where they had some nice bonuses for me). With the TUFEEF, I asked for a fine nib that flexed and was going to use Platinum Carbon Black as my ink of choice (actually have been using the Osprey multi-color cartridges only so far and like the color, but will go to PCB to get that solid black). They wrote me a very nice note that if I was going to use PCB—to be careful and make sure to clean out the pen often to prevent clogging since the nib is EEF. I like that sort of thoughtfulness.
Very happy with everything.
Vraiment très bien. Je recommande
On 7/16/2025 I left a 1 star review about my new Titanium Ultraflex, which was giving me several problems. I had been having issues with the supplier from whom I'd purchased it, which was disappointing and frustrating. Osprey Pens, however, reached out to me and have been extraordinarily helpful over the last few weeks.
We've exchanged many emails, and they invested time and effort including a long video call, to help me solve the problems. We've worked out what the possible issues are and I'm now applying various fixes and adjustments they suggested. If these all work I'll be very happy with the nib and they are also sending me a second slightly different nib, as a backup.
This is the very best of customer service and I wouldn't hesitate to buy Osprey pens in future (albeit probably from a different intermediary supplier).
i have enjoyed this nib so much. my handwriting looks great and the flex is easy and effortless.
