Osprey Pens introduces ECONOMICAL SPECIAL GRIND nibs.

The Scholar pen comes fitted with an Osprey custom converter and your choice of a special grind nib unit. The nib units work with the Osprey converter, or pre-filled ink cartridges or with bottled ink using generic international converters. The pen is packaged in a premium pen box.

Size 6 Steel Architect Broad and Double Broad

Architect nibs are opposite to Italic nibs. They give a thin downstroke and a thick sidestroke. Also known as Hebrew grind. Designed for sharp, straight lines, this nib works best for print style, when writing in Roman letters. The line variance is enormous. Typically, not used for cursive writing.  However, if you want to be adventurous, and love experimenting to get fun print letters, or other artistic explorations, this nib can be useful.

  • Try using a consistent writing angle to reach its full effect.
  • We offer in 2 sizes – Broad (A B) and Double Broad (A BB)

Size 6 Steel Broad-Stub and Double Broad-Stub

Stub: A Stub nib tipping material is ground flat on the end. This type of a nib produces a narrow line on the cross stroke, broad on the down stroke. It mimics calligraphy (without doing anything different!) unlike flex nibs, which require pressure to change the line width. A stub nib is (usually) a broad nib that has a flat end but smoothly rounded corners.

Size 6 Steel Broad Right-Oblique and Broad Left-Oblique

Oblique: An Oblique tip is where a conventional rounded tip (like in a Standard Size 6 Broad nib as an example) is ground flat at an angle of 15 degrees. If the angle is made from top right to lower left, the nib is a Left Oblique (think of the shape of your left foot and hence also called Left-foot Oblique), and if the angle goes from top left to lower right then it’s a Right Oblique (also referred to as a right-foot oblique) nib.

Left Obliques are most comfortable for right handers. Expect the line widths to be more subtle. The rotation of the pen in the fingertips is key. If you are right-handed, rotate the grip section (and thus the nib) towards your thumb. This position keeps the flat edge of the nib properly on the paper as you write. Similarly, if you are left-handed, rotate the grip section (and thus the nib) towards your pinky finger.

When using a right oblique, reverse the grip position by rotating to the right.

Size6 Steel Zoom BB (Zoom Double Broad)

With a Zoom nib, line variations depend on the angle at which it is held, low angle gives thick lines, high angle (almost perpendicular to the paper) produces fine or thin lines. Good nib for sketching as it generally writes wet, especially for someone that likes medium to broad strokes. Flipping the nib to get thinner lines is always fun! From changing the angles from 15 to 45 to 90, you can get thick to medium to fine lines, which means you can almost get 3 different nib point writings with this one nib!!

I bought the pen for the nib as I haven’t had a 1.5 A/BB nib before. I hope you will be getting new supplies of ground nibs that are not in stock for the scholar pens. If I am right handed should I get an left oblique with my recent order for a royal blue scholar?
